JJJ's Newsletter #6 - Go back to News

Greetings fellow Triple J's fans! Spring is here, and so too is our next newsletter! This is shaping up to be the best summer ever, and we're here to tell you why:

Good Friday, March 25, 2005, is THE PASSION OF THE DJ. This very exclusive party is being hosted by Triple J's Music Café to raise money for Simapalooza 2005. For the exclusive folk who make it on the list (40 in total), you will enjoy an evening with live performances by DJKJ, Steve-E-Wunda, DJ Geo, DJ Addie, and Atrocity, and the resurrection of ODJ. From 10 pm to 3 am, you will savour the finest our DJ's have to offer at Triple J's, not to mention a free cd of the evening's performances AND a free t-shirt, with the Soulstice Music Society logo spraypainted on it. $25 gets you in the door – if you're on the list.

Saturday, April 2, 2005 is SIMAPALOOZA 2005! It's that time of year again – when the sun shines longer, the snow seems fresher, and Simapalooza is about to rock Mount Sima! Every spring, the Soulstice Music Society (Jordi Mikeli-Jones, Kevin Jack, Steve Swerhun, Chris Janzen, Dustin Anderson, Jonas Smith, and Andrea Scherle) partners with the Great Northern Ski Society to bring you a fusion of music and snowboarding madness, highlighting the biggest talents in both song and snow.

So many ideas, so many genres, what's a society to do? Well, the Soulstice Music Society is stopping at nothing to bring the patrons of Mount Sima the best and the brightest of local bands, DJ's and hip hop artists. Our goal is to bring out more than 1,000 people on Saturday, April 2, 2005!!

The tentative music line-up for Simapalooza 2005 includes a medley of our own United DJ's of Yukon (UDJY?), including DJKJ, DJ Steve-e-Wunda, DJ Synapse, DJ Geo, DJ House Arrest, DJ Addie, and Atrocity. In addition, powerhouse performances by Yukon heavy hitters, Nemesis (Eric Ireland, Mike Jones, Yves Paradis, Etienne Gerrard), Dec and the A's (Declan O'Donovan, Adriane Bergman) and a special musical performance by Rick Sward (and friends). If you are in a hip hop band, and you want to get in on the action, contact Jordi for more information – 4567-JJJ.

Simapalooza 2005 is about more than just snowboarding, skiing, schmoozing with friends in the beer gardens, or listening to the sweet sounds from the SMS, it's also about supporting our local hill, and cultivating an environment to stand the test of the Canada Winter Games in 2007.

Next, we've got DJ Dopey and DL Incognito coming to the Yukon Convention Centre on April 8, 2005. That's right, the Soulstice Music Society, Triple J's Music Café and Barry Bellchambers at the Yukon Convention Centre/High Country Inn have teamed up for their first ever production together! For those of you not familiar with these two rising stars: DJ Dopey is the renowned 2003 DMC World Turntable Champion who won Canada a spot on the global DJ network by winning in the UK back in '03. DL Incognito is a Nine Planets recording artist, and also the 2005 Juno Nominee for Best Canadian Rap Recording. Both are currently on the Lifted Research Tour! Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity, and help support Whitehorse's thriving music scene. Local DJs House Arrest and MC Dedicado will be the opening hip hop act! Tickets are $25, and can be purchased at Triple J's or Hougen's Ticket Centre. Triple J's will be having an in-store draw to win tickets.

Watson Lake Music Festival, May 20-23, 2005. For those of you who have inquired about tickets to the Watson Lake Music Festival, (who will be hosting Bif Naked, GOB and Sweatshop Union), we have received confirmation from the Watson Lake Recreation Centre that the tickets have not even been printed yet. Once they have the tickets, we'll get ‘em, and we'll let y'all know! (Hopefully we can get them into our store to do a signing….)

We've still got the Junglist Massive taking place every second Thursday at Triple J's Music Café. Synapse brings you the dopest drum n' bass beats from 6 to 8 pm. This is a free show for all ages. See the flyer in store for more information.

Every Friday, from 6 to 9 pm, is FREESTYLE FRIDAYS! We invite anyone to come down to Triple J's and show off their talents. Resident DJ House Arrest looks forward to seeing more of you out!

Jeremy Jones and his band, Drifting, (Rory O'Brien, Chris Blaker and Seki Wedge) have just cut a song in the studio (thanks Laurie Malo and Rainbow Studios!) in coordination with the BYTE Society. It's St. Patrick's Day on Thursday, March 17, 2005 and the Capital Hotel is the place to be! Limmerick contests, decorations, prizes, drink specials, green beer and Midnight Sun Pipe Band (at 7pm) are all apart of the festivities – not to mention rockin' tunes by your own 3JDJ!! She's there every Thursday to make you shake yo' groove thang! And if she doesn't have what you want, she's got a request pad so she can play it for you the following week! (NOW THAT'S SERVICE!)

Also at the Capital - don't forget about DJKJ and Steve-e-Wunda with guests Atrocity or DJ Geo playing every Saturday night, or DJ House Arrest and Synapse with guest MC Dedicado every Friday night! Weekly drink specials for students, and bring in your Mt. Sima lift pass, and buy one get one free drink!

Keep in mind that Triple J's has the best prices ANYWHERE IN TOWN on flags, patches, stickers, vinyl, posters, hoodies, t-shirts, air fresheners, studs and spikes, Stoner Rock and much more. Common' down and listen to music, read a magazine, check out the art or just visit with Jordi and Jeremy. We look forward to seeing you soon! (And for you lil' shoplifters, we'd like to draw your attention to the two cameras we have installed to keep an eye on you!!)
